PAWS<= /span>

 

= PAWS is an acronym for Planning Actually= Works Spiral.  Its goals are to be= tter organize students, to create better communication between the school and parents, and to be an essential part in SHJH Discipline Management Program.=

 

Students are to brin= g their PAWS with them to each class and take them home each night for their parents to look over.

 

Please take a few mi= nutes to familiarize yourself with the planner.  The Table of Contents on page one lists t= he various aspects that will be helpful to organize our students.  The teacher will document all classroom infractions on the date they occur in the PAWS monthly calendar (beginning = on page 22).  A code of infractions wi= ll be listed in the front of the spiral, i.e. M – materials, TK – talking, etc.  More severe behaviors will result in an office referral.  Students can earn Panther Time (free activity period on Monday) if they have no more that 3 infractions listed during the prior week (Thursday afternoon to the next Thursday afternoon).  All students = who earn Panther Time during each week of a six weeks grading period will be eligible for a larger incentive which will be announced at the beginning of= the six weeks.

 

As students accumula= te infractions, the following actions will occur:

10 infractions =3D = Student Concern Meeting with student, Mrs. Duvall, and Mr. Reed, plus 3 days of Aft= er School Detention (ASD), 3:30 –4:00 p.m.

20 infractions =3D = letter to parent/guardian, plus 4 days of After School Detention (ASD).=

30 infractions =3D = team meeting with teachers, parents and student, plus 1 day of Saturday School

40 infractions =3D = team meeting with teachers, parents and student, plus 1 day of Saturday School and consideration for placement in Alternative School

 

 

= PAWS also has a section for weekly pl= anning which begins on page C1 located after page 32.  Students are required to list assignments/work for each day in this section of the planner.  Incentives= are available for students having assignments entered correctly.  Space is available here for communicati= on between parents and teachers.

 

At the back of PAWS = is a Hallway Passport.  Students must ha= ve this completed and with them when they are out of class for any reason duri= ng a class period.
