YBA

Diversified Career Preparation is the cooperative education program offered at Spring Hill High School. Open to juniors and seniors, applications are taken each spring. Absences, grades, discipline records, and faculty references are then checked before admittance into the program. Students earn four credits for DCP and must work 15 hours per week.  Those who participate in DCP are usually either granted early release or late start to help accommodate their work schedule.

DCP students participate in the Young Business Associates, a school organization in which its members facilitate service projects for both the school and the Longview community. Members may apply for college scholarships each April.

The Young Business Associates Officers for 2009-2010 are as follows:

President:                                  Trey Miller
Vice-President:                           Jeremy Hall
Secretary:                                  Allyson Handy
Treasurer:                                   Madison Ford
Historian:                                   Shelby Davis
YBA Class Officer, 1st Period:     Zac Thompson
YBA Class Officer, 2nd Period:    Danni Dial
YBA Class Officer, 3rd Block:      Aryn Peralli
YBA Class Officer, 5th Block:      Becky Vicente

YBA is beginning to fill up its fall calendar, and once again, students are busy designing sweatshirts and completing preliminary activities for another year of successful Spring Hill sweatshirt sales.  Eighty percent of the sales will fund Diversified Career Preparation student scholarships, and the other 20% will be geared for service projects including a canned food drive and a special reading project in the works for Primary students.

YBA "Hearts for Haiti" Auction
submitted by Holly Whittington for the January-February 2010 Newsletter

Thursday, February 11th at 9:00am at the L. L. Williamson Auditorium, YBA will be holding the “Hearts for Haiti” auction where select high school students and teachers will be auctioned off, and the earnings will be donated to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

The emcee for the show will be Coach Chatterton, and the auctioneer is Chris Peurifoy. Approximately 50 students will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Prior to the actual show, numbered paddles will be made and sold for $1 to those who want to participate and sit up front at the auditorium. Thos who do not wish to sit up front and take part will be seated behind the participants.

Special entertainment will be provided by students and faculty, and after the event, the successful bidders will be the guests of the students they bid on in the library with a wonderful Valentines luncheon catered by Mrs. Coker and her classes.

We are striving to raise money by many different means. The auction itself will generate money. We are also selling T-shirts and sponsorships. Parents are invited to attend, and we will happily accept checks made payable to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund so moms and dads can use the donation as a deduction.

Hearts for Haiti T-ShirtThe T-shirts are $10 and can be bought from and YBA member. Order forms have been handed out. You may complete one and turn it into the designated box in the high school office. The orders are due by next Wednesday, February 3rd so that the shirts will be back to you by February 10th, the day before the auction. We want to encourage everyone who purchases a shirt to wear it on February 11th.

Sponsorships can also be bought from any of the YBA members. If you decide to buy a sponsorship then your name or the name of your company will be listed on a banner that will be placed at center stage. We are asking for $100 sponsorships, so if you are interested please contact YBA to request a sponsorship form. The form and payment will be due by Wednesday, February 4th.

If you have any questions or you would like to request a form contact any YBA member or Holly Whittington at hwhit@springhill.esc7.net.
