Course Description:

Biology is defined as ‘the study of life’; therefore, this class will cover the fundamental concepts relating to life.  Some of the major areas that will be covered include:  Scientific Processes; Cell Parts and Processes; Levels of Organization; Photosynthesis; Respiration; Bacteria/Viruses; Distinguishing Plants, Animals, and Fungus; Human Systems; DNA/RNA; Protein Synthesis; Genetics; Classification; and Ecology.

Absences, Tardiness, and Make-Up Work

Absences:  Students are expected to be in class.  If a student misses a class, it is their responsibility to take care of the following:

·       Present an admit slip upon return.  If you have to retrieve one from the office, then it will result in an unexcused tardy.

·       Work that was due the day of absence, is due the day of return

·       If a student will miss a scheduled quiz or test due to an extracurricular activity, they must take it PRIOR to leaving for the event (per Mr. Watkins).  These events are privileges and come secondary to school.

Tardiness:  Students are expected to be on time.  In order to be successful, students should be in their seats with all materials that will be needed for the day.

·       If a student is late due to another class, they must bring a note signed by the teacher upon arriving.  They will not be allowed to go back and get one.

Make-Up Work:  If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to take care of the following:

·       Check the absence folders for work that was missed.  DO NOT inquire about what was missed while class is taking place.

·       You have one day to complete make-up work upon your return to class

·       You must schedule make-up quizzes and tests during tutorials.  Make-Ups will be different from the ones taken on the scheduled day.  Again, you have one day upon your return to schedule a make-up

·       Special Circumstances can be discussed with the teacher during tutorials or after class

·       NO late work will be accepted

Classroom Rules

1.   Give your best effort the entire class period, no matter what the assignment may be.

2.   Conduct yourself in a manner so that everyone else is able to abide by Rule #1.

3.   Keep feet off of seats

4.   NO food or drinks allowed

5.   Remain in your seat until you are dismissed.  The bell is not the signal for you to get up and leave.

6.   Bring your materials to class everyday and be prepared to use them.  Retrieving them after the bell will result in an unexcused tardy.
