JONES, CARRIE

Algebra II, Algebra II Honors, and NFS/CD

Hi, I am Carrie Jones, and I am looking forward to teaching each and every one of your children this year. Below is a copy of my syllabus. Please call me anytime with questions or concerns about your child. I am a mom of three and will try to treat your child as if he/she were my own. I teach because I love people, kids especially. They are our future. Thanks in advance for sharing your child with me and entrusting them to my care. I will do my best to teach them everything they need to know!!

OH, and please purchase your child a TI 83 or TI84 graphing calculator!! All high school math students will need one.

Conference: Aday 9:57-11:29, Bday  11:34-1:39

Materials needed:

1.        Notebook paper                   6.  Your covered textbook

2.         2” three ring binder             7.  Calculator TI 82 or higher

3.         4 Dividers                             8.  Last name         A-G  2 dry erase markers

  1.  pencils                                                                  H-Q 10 pencils
  2. Red pens                                                               R-Z  5 red pens

Class rules:

1.         Be Prepared –

Have paper, notebook, pencil, red pen, book and any other project supplies. Do work in pencil. Grade in red pen. Sharpen pencils before class.

2.          Be Prompt –

Be in your desk when the bell rings to start and end class without running. Do not get up while I am talking.

3.          Be Productive –

Work quietly. Take notes. Be productive during group work by avoiding unnecessary talking.

4.         Be Polite –

Refrain from inappropriate language, throwing, and sleeping. Follow handbook rules concerning food and drink, electronic devices, and dress code.

5.        Be Positive.

Consequences:

Students who misbehave will be asked to sign a referral for their first infraction. The second infraction will result in a parent being called and signing the referral a second time. The third time a student misbehaves he/she will be sent to the office. This is a campuswide policy.

Homework:

Homework will be 1/3 of a student’s average. Some work will be due at the end of class.  Some will be due for homework the next class day unless otherwise informed. An assignment one day late will be 30 points off.  Any day after that is a 50 at most.  Homework heading should look like this:

Name (5 pts.)                                                                         Date

                                                                Assignment

(If late or makeup, write it here)

Tests:

Tests will count 2/3 of a student’s average. Retests will not be given. Corrections may sometimes be offered to earn back 25% of points lost. For example, if a student makes an 87 on a test and corrects it on a clean piece of paper and staples it to the front of the test, then the student could earn up to 3 points on their test. (100-87)/4=3.25 or 3 points

Makeup Work:

Work and tests assigned before an absence will be due the date the student returns.  Any work missed can be made up in +3 days (example: 1 class day missed = 3 days to makeup, 4 class days missed = 7 days to makeup.) Check the notebook at the back of the class for missed work and notes. Check the assignment sheet on the bulletin board too.

Tardies:

An unexcused tardy (no note) will be turned into the office. Tardies will follow the referral policy mentioned under consequences. First-sign referral, second-parent phone call and sign referral, third-office visit. Again, this is a campuswide policy.

Cheating:

Cheating results in an automatic zero for BOTH parties.

Grading Policy:                                                                   Notebook Order:
