American History II



I am excited to be teaching the second half of American History.  The topics I will be covering start at Immigration and end at the present.  I hope  the students find that History can be more than the memorizing of dates and people.    I look forward to seeing you in class daily.


COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course covers the political, economic, and social development of the United States beginning with the reconstruction period and continuing until the present. Special emphasis is given to the military conflicts that involve the United States and its growth into a world power.


SYLLABUS

First Nine Weeks the following topics will be covered in US History

 

Immigration and The west

Big Business
The Gilded Age
The Progressive Era
Becoming a World Power
World War I

Second Nine Weeks
The Post War and the Roaring Twenties
The Great Depression
World War II
Post War Foreign Policy (Korea and Vietnam)
Post War Domestic Policy (Civil Rights Movement and Supreme Court Cases)
Recent History (Hot Topics ex. Current Issues)





LATE WORK

There is no such thing as late work in US History.  A zero will be given if the work is not turned in on time.


MAKE-UP WORK
"If you are absent it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out what was missed.  Missed assignments will not be given out or discussed during class.    Make-up work should be completed according to deadlines set by the teacher.  If you have a conflict that cannot be resolved, it is up to you to make other arrangements with me.  Make-up work for daily assignments and major tests will result in zeros if not completed in the allotted time.


GRADING POLICY

Major Tests grades are worth 66.7% of you average.
Daily tests, class exercises, and class projects are worth 33.3% of your average. 
Writing assignment grades and notebook grades will vary and will be announced prior to the due date.

 

CONFERENCE TIMES

11:25-1:35 Lunch during this time as well
