Biology
Students conduct field and laboratory investigations, use scientific methods
during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical-thinking and
scientific problem solving. The Biology students will study cellular
organization, microbiology including bacterial and viral diseases, and the organisms
that cause typical diseases. The class
will cover an extensive unit on genetics from genetic disorders to DNA
recombination and up to date discoveries in Genetics. The class will cover invertebrates, vertebrates
and ecology.
ABSENCE POLICY AND MAKE-UP WORK:
1.
Class attendance is mandatory; you must present and admit slip upon returning
to class
after an absence.
2.
All work due the day you were absent is due the day you return to class.
3.
Make-up work must be discussed with the teacher.
4.
NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.
5.
If you are absent the day BEFORE a previously announced test, and return the
day of the test, you will be required to take the exam. Special
circumstances will be discussed with your teacher.
6.
If you fail a major test, you will be afforded the opportunity to raise your
grade up to a 70 through my re-testing policy. (see retesting below.)
GRADING POLICY
1.
The test average will count 70% of your overall average; the daily grade will
make up the remaining 30%.
2.
Daily grades consists of graded homework, class assignments, announced and
unannounced quizzes, and lab assignments.
3.
Deficiency reports will be sent to any student whose average falls to 75% or
below, and parent calls will be made.
RETEACHING/RETESTING INFORMTION
1.
Students who fail a major test may have an opportunity to improve the test
grade based whether they are willing to come in for tutorials and are willing
to take another test. If the student
does receive an opportunity to re-test, the highest grade he or she may receive
is a 70.
