** 55% of students who retake the
ACT improve their scores (22% score the same and 23% see their scores
decrease).
The SAT Reasoning Test costs $45. The essay is mandatory;
there is no option like on the ACT. SAT
Basic Subject Tests are $20 per registration.
Students are encouraged to register online at www.collegeboard.com You will need a Master Card or VISA to
register online. If you plan on pursuing
athletics in college, be sure to send NCAA an official score report as they
will not accept the sticker on the back of the high school transcript as
“official.” Beginning in March 2009,
students may use the new Score Choice feature to choose which scores to send to
colleges. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/score_choice.html?CampaignID=3465
Suggestion: Take both the ACT and the SAT. They are totally different tests and you will
score better on one. ACT has English,
reading, math, science reasoning, and an optional essay. SAT sections are math, critical reading, and

TO DO LIST:
1.
Take
the ACT / SAT (unless you have already done so and are happy with your
scores)
2.
Begin
to visit and decide upon the college you will attend after graduation. When
you get accepted to a college, bring Mrs. Lindsey your acceptance letter so she
can post it in the monthly newsletter and website.
3.
Most
4-year public universities and some 2-year colleges use the Texas Common
Application for Freshman Admission. You
can apply at multiple universities using this one application. You can apply online at www.applytexas.org. *** Apply Early***For many schools,
November 1, 2009 was the deadline for early admissions. Also, at many schools, space is limited and
it is to your advantage to get your application in early.
4.
Once
you apply to a college, you need to
request a transcript from Mrs. Lindsey. Please
fill out the form located on Mrs. Lindsey’s office door. I will put the class ranking, GPA and TSI
exemption on it.
FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP – THURSDAY,
JANUARY 21st , HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Make plans for you and your parents to attend. All senior parents are encouraged to
attend. We will have handouts, so don’t
miss this informative workshop!
FAFSA:
It has been recommended to me that all seniors and their parents go
ahead and apply for a PIN number online
at: www.pin.ed.gov. You can use the same email account for the
PIN. If you already have your PIN when
you fill out the FAFSA online, then you can sign and your parents can sign
using the PIN number and the college you send it to (electronically) will have
it in one week. If you do a paper copy
of the FAFSA and “snail-mail” it, the time it takes to get to the university
could be up to 2 months. The FAFSA can
be completed online beginning in January at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This
is FREE!! Remember, if it costs
money to get something that is FREE, it is probably not worth it.
The next
academic history (transcript) will be printed in January after fall semester
and Christmas mini credits have been entered.
All students will be listed as being on the Recommended plan as a
default. If you will graduate on the
Distinguished plan…we will affix a label to the final transcript indicating the
appropriate graduation program.

consists of three one-half day sessions.
Each person must attend the first two sessions and must return for one
more half-day session. The third session
will be part testing and part conference.
At least one parent of high school students will need to be available
for the conference portion of the third session. The fee for the testing program in Dallas is
$775. For more information, please

Texas
Job Corps Program: This is a program for students who are not pursuing
college but need vocational skills in order to obtain quality employment, build
a career and secure a good future. This
program could be beneficial for students not on track to graduate or those who
will not remain in school through graduation.
This is also an ideal option for students who need to separate from a
disruptive environment in order to focus on their education and training. Two centers are located in Texas: Gary Job Corps in San Marcos and the North
Texas Center in McKinney, both have high schools on campus. Job Corps offers a comprehensive plan to
prepare students for the world of work through education, vocational skills for
today’s competitive job market, social/life skills, job placement and advanced
career training or college. For more
information please contact Vicki Rodgers at 903-758-1783.
