WORLD HISTORY




I    Course Description:  This course spans the time period 4,000,000 B.C. to the present.  Students are introduced to the history of people and their cultures.  Emphasis is placed on the following topics:  the beginnings of civilization, civilization of the ancient world;  civilizations of medieval world;  the emergence of modern nations;  the development of industrial society;  world war in the twentieth century;  and the modern world since 1945.
     
      Grading Policy:  Major test grades are worth 66.7% of your average.  Daily tests, class exercises, and class projects are worth 33.3% of your average.  Writing assignment grades and notebook grades will vary and will be announced prior to the due date.

      Reteaching and Retesting:  If you score below a 70 on a major test, you have the opportunity to be retaught and retested.  All reteaching and retesting will be done before and after school.  No reteaching and retesting will be done during the class period.  If you do not attend reteaching, you will not be retested.  On the retest, the highest grade you can attain is 70.  After retesting, you will receive the higher of the two grades from the original and the retest.  For example, if you score 55 on the original test, attend reteaching and take the retest and score 80, you will receive the grade of 70.  If you score 55 on the original test, attend reteaching and take the retest and score 40, you will receive the grade of 55.  Daily work is not to be retaught and retested.
