I am excited to be teaching English I.  I look forward to sharing To Kill A Mockingbird, Great Expectations, and Romeo and Juliet with you.  We also must work on our writing and grammar skills and prepare for the TAKS Reading Test.  Don't panic;  I will make it as painless as possible!

ENGLISH DEPARTMENT GRADING PROCEDURE:

Each daily grade counts once; each major test grade counts twice. Note that it is not the average of all daily grades that counts once, nor, is it the average of all major grades that counts twice. Instead, each individual assignment is recorded once or twice, depending on whether it is a daily grade or major test grade.

LATE WORK POLICY

Late work is ONLY accepted if a student has an absence or absences that affect the deadline of the assignment. Some assignments given in advance will maintain their deadlines, and students will be held responsible when they return to school. For example, if a student is absent on the day that an assignment is due, he or she is responsible for submitting that assignment upon his or her return to school.

MAKEUP WORK IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY

If a student is absent from class, it is HIS/HER responsibility to find out what was missed ON THE DAY HE/SHE RETURNS TO SCHOOL during tutorial in Mrs. McGarvey's classroom (3:15-3:45). All makeup assignments, tests, and tutorials are done starting at 3:15.

*****Makeup work should be completed as soon as possible (i.e. 1 absence = 1 day makeup time; 2 days absence = 2 days makeup time; 3 days absence = deadline set by teacher)
