List of Acceptable Reading Day Books & Authors:

Frequently, during class, we may have a “Reading Day.”  This is when you will have to get out the book you have chosen from this list and read for a selected amount of time.  There is absolutely NO TALKING or NO SLEEPING during this reading, or you will receive an automatic zero for the day.  After reading, you will be required to fill out a “Reading Day Log” for that day.  The instructions for this will be given in class.  If you finish a book inside or outside of class, then you may choose a new title from this list to replace it.  Always have your Reading Day Book with you!  There will be additional assignments with your novel, so be aware.  Please choose a book on this list that you have never read or that you find interesting.  You will also be assigned “Reading Day Logs” for homework as well.  We plan to read an entire novel each 9 weeks, so choose wisely.  You may purchase the book at a store or on the internet, but you may also find a book at the local library or school’s library.  Just don’t come empty-handed!

Words to live by or appreciate:
”To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”

--Anatole France

“Life is divided into three terms—that which was, which is, and which will be.  Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present to live better in the future.”

--William Wordsworth

“Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.”

--C.S. Lewis

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply!”

--Goethe

“A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle.”

--Kahlil Gibran

“If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.”

--Margaret  Fuller
