Student Expectations

  1. Be Respectful

You will respect me, your classmates, and the school.  You can demonstrate this by using proper manners, being encouraging to one another, and taking pride in the way that you act.

  1. Be Responsible

Please be seated when the tardy bell rings. Have your materials ready and cease talking when I begin class. Homework is due when the tardy bell rings unless I tell you otherwise.

I strongly recommend that you take notes and copy all examples I give during class, as these are very beneficial when doing your homework

.

Complete all assignments on time. Late papers will be penalized 20 points and you will have 1 day to complete the work. After that, a zero is given for that assignment.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what was missed. Get caught up as quickly as possible. Remember, you can also check the school web site for lesson plans. (www.springhill.esc7.net)

  1. Work Towards Your Class Goals

Work on assignments after explanation, in your group, or at home.  Do not waste any time you have in class to work on assignments.  I don’t want you to just “get by”, I want you to work on raising your expectations.

  1. Follow the Guidelines in the Student Handbook

  1. Do Your Personal Best Each Day

This will be expected in the way that you act, do homework, listen, participate in discussion, interact with classmates, and so on.

Homework Help

Our new text book is fantastic at giving you references to help you with your homework.  You can also go online to www.go.hrw.com and receive video recordings of lessons that you might have missed or need a little more help in.  This on-line homework tutor also gives explanations for each problem in the book.  It is an amazing tool.  Use it!

Tutorials

Tutorial times are set aside each morning from 7:55 – 8:15 and each afternoon from 3:15 – 3:35.  due to coaching responsibilities, I am unavailable after school.  However, each morning beginning at 7:45 I am on campus for tutorials.  I will instruct the students on where to find me.

Grading

The high school Math department grades 2/3 major test average and 1/3 daily average. In Geometry, you will have at least 3 major tests each 9 weeks. Each student will be required to complete 2 - 3 projects per semester. These projects will be counted as major exams.

Re-teach/Retest will be available for anyone not scoring a 70 or above on a major test. Re-tests have a maximum score of 70 and will be taken on an arranged date between the teacher and student.

Progress reports are issued each 3 weeks for anyone with an average of 75 or below.

The 9-week average is calculated by multiplying the test average by 2, adding the daily average, and dividing by 3.  This is the grade that determines eligibility for UIL and extra-curricular activities.

The semester grade is calculated by multiplying the average of your 2 nine weeks grades by 6, adding the semester exam, and dividing by 7.

The final grade is calculated by adding the 1st and 2nd semester grades and dividing by 2. This is the grade that determines credit for a course.

Re-Teach/Re-Test

Each student will be given one opportunity per each 9 week grading period for a retest.  The retest will afford the student the opportunity to either raise their test grade to a 70 or to earn back half of the missed points.  (whichever is more beneficial to the student)  Of course we will always be available and recommend that students re-teach.

·        5 points per day will be subtracting from your grade if you are not suited out properly.  (Suited out properly means that you had on athletic shorts, tennis shoes, and a t-shirt.  If we go outside, you can wear a sweat-shirt.)

·        An unexcused absence will result in 5 points being subtracted from your grade for not participating.  (Each student will receive 1 time per semester to bring a note from their parents saying that they cannot participate that day.)

·        We will occasionally have days in the gym where you get to choose what you want to do.  You will not have an option on what to do if you did not participate 100% that week.
